Not my style, and I've given up bananas. They give me gas.

Here's a better one...I've given up bananas because they're too difficult to peel and eat while fighting so many fish

Yeah, right!

A steelhead fly fisherman needs two qualities:
A strong casting arm and a room temperature IQ.

The set up is for those folk trying to make the transition, but can not quite make the disconnect from a level winder. Saw some folk last August fishing a spinning rod with a fly reel and mono on the reel- what ever floats your boat, I suppose. It wasn't a fluke, cause more than one guy had the exact same set up in their group. They were catching fish, so I can't knock it.

Now as far as bananas go, here is one for ya. We're fishing for dorado in the Sea of Cortez the end of July. Our best day of fishing ends when we notice the guide can no longer keep his motor in the trolling range. Pretty soon the motor becomes totally uncooperative and now we are adrift in the current. The morning had been pretty productive up until then. The pangero calls one of his buddies on cell phone, not the cb radio, to come give us a tow back to the harbor. All the while during the tow, our friends in the other boat are flipping us off cause they can no longer fish the hot bite either. Its the last day of of fishing anyway, so I start pulling stuff out of my bag to give to the boat captain, when all of a sudden I find 2 bananas in my bag. Now the heat is off the boat captain for a bad motor and on me for bringing bananas on the trip. I was lucky I didn't have to swim back to shore.

Are you sure they wernt using a center pin reel? They look just like a fly reel.

I was curious enough to ask them if they were using a center pin reel. Their response was, "Nope, what is that?" Maybe they didn't know what they were using. I certainly didn't know but was highly suspect enough to ask about it. This sure looks like it now with the rod, etc I found on a Michigan Steelhead website.
